With a low powerful shot from the edge of the penalty area, Clint “Deuce” Dempsey secured his mark on American History. The goal broke the record for most goals scored in a Premier League season by an American, previously held by Brian McBride. Being an American myself, I didn’t care about the result of the game. I just was just excited to see my American hero show the world American’s have a sense for the goal.

With his boundless determination Dempsey has progressed thoroughly throughout the years. After transferring from the New England Revolution in 2007, Dempsey has had a promising two and a half years at Craven Cottage.  Even after racking up an impressive thirty-five goals for Fulham over his years, it’s not just goals the American brought to the team, it has been his motivation that has proven vital for both club and country success over the years.

With friendlies against Argentina and Paraguay rapidly approaching, you can’t help but wonder how the midfielder will perform. American coach, Bob Bradely has clearly expressed the importance of Dempsey’s contributions to the campaigns. Many will remember the 2009 Confederation’s Cup in which Dempsey led the American’s to the finals to loose 3-2 to South American giants, Brasil. Then at the 2010 World Cup, Dempsey showed brilliance on and off the ball, snatching a goal against English goal keeper, Robert Greene.

With the Gold Cup this summer many will be relying on the number 23 once again. Dempsey will clearly play a key role in the international campaign in these next few years, but many are starting to doubt. Atlhough this has been arguably Dempsey’s best league year, he will be on the other side of 30 by the 2014 World Cup, with many doubting his capabilites to come. Nonetheless, this player is one to watch out for.
